A Heart Overflowing with Motherly Affection
In your copy of A Woman After God's Own Heart read Chapter, 11 "A Heart Overflowing with Motherly Affection, Part 1". What meant the most to you from this chapter or offered you the greatest challenge or inspired you deeply?
I love the 5 marks of mothering affection and feel I do a pretty good job with all of these:)
1.) A Heart That Prays -- Now, what kind of prayers are you praying for your dear children? Jot down a few notes of their general contents...
A heart to love God
Future spouses
To be honesty
To stay true to who they are
2.) A Heart That Provides -- Read Proverbs 31: 10-31, listing the provisions this godly mother made for her family
Brings food and goods
opens her arms to the poor
works with eager hands
she speaks wisdom
watches over the house
3.) A Heart That is Happy -- I know that we've already looked at this scripture in our study, but please write out again the teaching of Proverbs 12:25 ::
An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up
How can your happy heart and good word minister to your family?
Praying
A happy heart is always better for your family!!!!!
And the opposite, how can your lack of a happy heart and a good word affect them negatively?
I always believed this saying...
If momma ain't happy and nobody happy.
Now look at a few more Proverbs:
I wrote all these verses down in my book of verses I memorize...Love all of them
This quote really spoke to me...
"You create the atmosphere of the home with your attitudes."
Elisabeth Elliot
Does being cheerful and being "up" and "lighting up" for your family sound unimportant? Hypocritical? Impossible? Not at all!!! This is so important to me.
4.) A Heart That Gives -- Closely related to a heart that is happy is a heart that gives. Look at these verses in your Bible and write out in a few words how each encourages you to nurture a heart that gives...
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many
Here are some ways you and I can be "the givers." We can give.....
Jot down beside each one of these evidences of motherly affection a specific effort you can make to give these priceless gifts to your children this week.
--a smile I do this alot, especially when they look at me
--a cheerful greeting everyday...when the get up and when I pick them up from school
--a hug everyday and alot.I love to cuddle with them...it's the best:)
--a compliment everyday--an encouragement everyday--a praise everyday--a time everyday--a listening ear always and everyday--a ride everyday...I'm their taxi driver...lol--an extra mile everyday
5.) A Heart of Fun -- Just for fun, consider doing one of the following this week: Think of three or four ideas yourself and add them to this list
1. Let them cook pancakes with me...my son has been wanting to do this so bad
2.camp outside in the yard
3. watch their favorite movie and play LOTS of board games
4.do a fun craft for Easter
Being a mother is so rewarding in so many ways and I feel so blessed and thankful to be a mother.
